Installing the VoIP Software

Go to the website:  www.skype.com

To run SkypeTM you will need Windows 2000, XP or Vista and for a Mac you need Mac OS X 10.3 or higher.

You will need to create an account with a username and password.  Make sure you write this someplace in the event you forget it.

Select the DOWNLOAD button

Select from the RIGHT SIDE BAR which type of computer/operating system you have:

  • Windows (business version)
  • Mac OS X
  • Linux

Select DOWNLOAD NOW
The SkypeTM download should start within seconds. If it doesn’t, you can start the download again.   If using Internet Explorer, you may see a message below your address bar that says:  “To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer.  Click here for options…”  Click on the banner and you can proceed to download.

You’re now downloading Skype

A window will open asking what you want to do with a file called SkypeSetup.exe.
You might see a confirmation message, asking if you’re sure you want to run this software. Click ‘Run’ again.

Launch Skype
After the installation has finished, you can open SkypeTM at any time by clicking the icon on your desktop or in your system tray.

That’s how easy it is!  You will want to run through the tests Skype asks you to test your speakers and voice.  Once those are adjusted, you are ready to go.

When you open Skype, select Tools and then Options.  You will see the following list:

>General

  • General settings:  ACS recommends you select “Start Skype when I start (Windows or Mac OS X)”
  • Audi settings
  • Sounds
  • Video settings

>Privacy
>Notifications
>Calls: ACS suggests you select “Allow calls… only from people on my contact list
>IM & SMS
>Advanced

Select each option and check the boxes that fit your needs. If you are having problems with your installation, please call ACS so we will work with you to make sure everything is working before your scheduled call.
